This was my first road-bike race. I signed up for the Category 4/5 division, which has 75 entries. We raced 9 laps on a 2.2 mile loop around Marblehead neck. At the end of the lap, the field strings out while squeezing around a sharp turn and then there is a sprint to catch up, and then a nice uphill. There was a big peloton for the first 53 minutes followed by a big sprint at the end. I was in somewhere in 10th-20th after the final sharp turn, sprinted to get closer to the lead part of the group, put in a good effort on the hill, and then had not much left. I got 14th. Overall a good fun race, a few scary moments riding in the big pack, but pretty fun.  I think I’ll try a few more road races.

Good job! I think road racing is way more scary than MTB racing. Other people can take you out.
